For most of his career, Leonard Cohen was an artist’s artist: he wasn’t much of a celebrity, but he influenced scores of musicians. Over the years, he’s been covered by, among others, Elton John, Johnny Cash, Aaron Neville, Peter Gabriel, Sting, Willie Nelson, Tori Amos, the Pixies, R.E.M., Don Henley, Trisha Yearwood and Billy Joel.

“Hallelujah” is an iconic song that has been covered by Jeff Buckley,Bono, Justin Timberlake and probably hundreds of American Idol hopefuls. So, after the news of his death circulated on Thursday night (November 10), it’s no surprise that artists took to social media to express their condolences, sorry, and most of all, respect.
